Choose Your Own Clark Adventures: "It
[click above to return to main CYOCA page]

The first-ever Choose-Your-Own-Clark-Adventure series was produced by WheatBread magazine in March of 1997. Four full-size books (and one two-pager) were written and edited over the course of several months, and were distributed for free at a table in the Clark University Center under the slogan "Choose Your Own Clark Adventures: It's About Time." The books were outputted on a 36,000 dpi room-size digital printer (at great cost). 1000 copies of each book were printed for the 2500 students at Clark. Each day, for four days, a different book was unveiled (CYOCA#5 was stuck into the back of CYOCA#4 as a supplement).

The series sold out almost instantly. Actual copies of the books remain collector's items. WheatBread was beleaguered with calls, including a number of professors requesting autographed copies of "Trainaspotting," the fourth book. There has been talk of reprinting the first run, as well as talk of someday producing CYOCAs #6 through #10. The current Editor says it is a matter of enough student interest, and enough money in the budget-- CONTAC HER with interest.

Putting the CYOCA series on the Internet was one of the original motivations for having a website. Distressingly little has been written using non-linear narratives, and we are excited to have this opportunity to bring our books to hypertext. Please enjoy.

Randy Mack-- Randy Mack says, "While this book is complete satire, I hope people can sift through the fantasy and get some important lessons from the story. And although the book has serious subtext, I hope people will enjoy the slick pages and shiny staples."
